Belgium is located between France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. It is one of the so called 'low' countries. It has three official languages, Dutch, French and German and also the fourth unofficial language of English so you are never left short of such a diverse culture! There are many places to explore in Belgium such as the capital, Brussels which is renowned for it's Gothic architecture, the Grand Palace, Chocolate as well as many pubs, galleries and expensive boutiques. It must be noted that Brussels has more Michelin starred restaurants than any other place in the world!
The air oozes with warm waffles on a cold winters day, cafe's and pubs that never close as well as many sights such as Comic Strip Route at St Grey, which is a series of giant comic strip murals and colourful statues which are embedded in the side streets and alley ways of this old town.
Visit Flanders with the historic city of Antwerp which is known for it's famous diamond stock exchange. Also visit the zoo which is one of the oldest opened in 1843 during Belgium's colonial heyday. Admire the Brabo Fountain, which rises from a rough pile of rocks in the centre of Grote Market. Bruges and Ghent are known as “The Venice of the North” also home to some wonderful artists work such as Paul Delvaux and Jan van Eyck. There are many architectural buildings to see, such as Huis van Alijn (House of Alijn) with it's beautiful restored almshouses in the heart of the city, St Baaf's Cathedral where you must see the De Aanbidding van het Lams God - The Adoration of the Mystic Lambm, or the Belfry which dates back to the 14th century and offers great views of the city. |
