Antibes is a resort town in the Alpes-Maritimes region of southeastern France. Located on the Mediterranean Sea between Cannes and Nice, it is a leisure-industry town that is known for its nightlife and remains very popular with tourists.
Originally founded as a 5th century BCE Greek colony, Antibes has long been a trading centre due to its protected port. In addition, flower growing has become an integral part of the local economy, with roses, carnations and other flowers grown under three kilometers of glass.
The old town, known as vieille ville is bordered with a long protective wall along the port and ramparts along the sea. What was once the Chateau, bastion and towers has now been transformed into a wonderful Modern Art Museum, a History and Archeology Museum and a Museum of Traditional Crafts and Local Culture. Tourists will also find a stunning variety of shops and restaurants among the winding streets and pretty squares, making this the ideal location for a much-needed getaway! |
