A thriving coastal resort on the Atlantic coast, Biscarosse lies south of Arachon in southwestern France. The seaside resort itself is known as Biscarosse Plage, which is known for it’s shopping, wine and restaurants, as well as its proximity to the sea. But the town proper is also brimming with shops and cafes and is located only a few miles away from the beaches.
Of historical note, there is a 15th century castle and a church, but perhaps the most famous attraction is the “Biscarosse Elm,” a 750-year-old tree! It is the oldest in all of Europe, and is one of very few to survive the catastrophic Dutch Elm disease.
In addition to the ocean, there is a huge natural lake and surrounding forests that are great to explore on foot, horseback or on a bicycle. The lake is a great choice for families with children too small for the ocean surf, as it is also graced with miles of gorgeous beaches. |
