Champagne-Ardenne is one of the 26 different regions located in France and can be found in the northeast portion of the country on the border of Belgium. A handful of major rivers flow through the region, including the Marne, the Seine, the Meuse and the Aisne, but the region is best known for producing sparkling white wine, known as champagne. Of particular note, in 2007 a new TGV station opened in the region in the town of Bezannes. It is known as the Champagne-Ardenne TGV and is part of the high-speed rail line that runs from Paris to Strasbourg.
Much of the Champagne-Ardenne region is agricultural, so be sure to reserve a rental car for your visit in order to enjoy easy access to the stunning countryside, as well as the magnificent cities, towns and villages that are located here. In addition to its many fine wines, the Champagne-Ardenne region offers a variety of extraordinary dining opportunities and a rich cultural heritage, including ancient homes in Troyes, the cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims and the walled city of Langres. Travelers looking for outdoor adventure will not be disappointed, as the Champagne-Ardenne region also boasts beautiful forests and lakes that offer a wide variety of hiking and other sporting activities. |
