The town of Digne-les-Bains is situated in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France on the banks of the Bléone River, which also serves as portions of the southwestern and northeastern borders of the community. Settlement here dates all the way back to the Neolithic-era and continued through Roman times, thanks in part to the area’s thriving lavender trade. Today, the warm climate and rich history combine to make it a popular place for tourists to stop while enjoying a road trip through the region.
While visiting Digne-les-Bains, be sure to check out the 15th century Roman Catholic Cathédrale Saint-Jérome de Digne, which is a national monument of France. Also of note, the 13th century Romanesque Cathédrale Notre-Dame-du-Bourg de Digne is located in the old town and functions today as a museum, while the Jardin botanique des Cordeliers is a magnificent botanical garden that is free to the public. |
