A thriving urban community in the southern suburbs of Paris, France, Evry is located just 25 kilometers from the center of Paris. A modern locale, it was largely built throughout the 1960s and is one of several new towns that have been developed just outside the capital since 1965. Conveniently, Evry is directly connected to Paris by railway and highway, making it is a logical centre for many different business services. In addition, a university is located here, as well as various industrial estates and office parks.
The town itself was originally known as Evry sur Seine, which meant “Evry upon the Seine,” but the name is actually originally derived from a Gallic word. The Cathedral of the Resurrection here dates only to the 20th century and is one of the few cathedrals that have ever been built in a truly modern style in all of France. |
