As the community with the largest land area in the entire Ile de France region, Fontainebleau is located in the metro area of Paris, France. This hamlet is a favorite getaway spot for Parisians due to the enormous, incredibly scenic Forest of Fontainebleau, which surrounds the city and dozens of other villages. The forest is managed according to its wild plants and trees, as well as its populations of mammals, butterflies and birds. It is popular among hikers and equestrians, while the many boulders here make it a favorite destination for climbers as well. Fontainebleau is also home to several renowned schools.
The historical Royal Chateau de Fontainebleau once belonged to the kings of France, serving as a place for them to go and relax or hunt in the nearby forest. It was also the location of the French Royal Court from 1528 on, and a place where the new ideas that eventually became known as the Renaissance took root and grew. |
