The town of Ghisonaccia is situated in the Corsica region of France on the island of Corsica, which is located off the southeastern coast of the country. The Fiumorbo River borders the town, as does the pond of Urbino – a 750-hectare lagoon that is situated to the northeast. A number of vineyards lie just outside of town as well, so be sure to reserve a rental car for your visit in order to enjoy easy access to the beautiful surrounding countryside.
While visiting Ghisonaccia, consider planning a number of day trips to the surrounding villages, in order to gain a better understanding of the unique culture of Corsica. For example, the village of Aleria is just 6 kilometers away on the north shore of the pond of Urbino, and boasts traces of human settlement that date all the way back to the Neolithic era. Also of note, the church in Ghisonaccia – although modern – boasts a variety of frescoes inspired by the Byzantine Empire. |
