Just 16 kilometers north of Cannes, the town of Grasse is located in the Provence region of France. Although it was historically renowned for its highly skilled leather tanners, this slowly gave way to perfume production over the years, and Grasse is still well known for this today. Although quite sizeable, it is a charming locale, complete with a lovely old town that boasts a variety of medieval buildings with cafes and restaurants lining the narrow streets.
Of particular note is the town hall, which features an amazing decorative fountain and interior courtyard, with a stunning view of the town centre. Also of note, a daily market is held in the main arcaded square, and the Cathedral Notre Dame de Puy is home to three paintings by Rubens.
The annual Fete du Jasmin has been held in Grasse each August since 1946. The festival includes a parade of decorated floats, fireworks, free parties, street performers and folk music groups. |
