As a large port near the estuary of the River Leguer, the town of Lannion is situated in the northern part of the Brittany region of France. Lively and modern, the town generates most of its wealth from its involvement with the telecommunications industry, but also features a magnificent historic centre.
Two walking tours through Lannion are a wonderful way to view the city and include a stop at the 12th century Church of Brelevenez, which is located at the top of 140 cottage-lined steps that comprise the Escalier de Brelevenez. Also of note, the 17th century Monastary of St. Ann is located just across the river from the heart of town, while the many 15th and 16th century half-timbered homes located throughout the narrow streets of the medieval old town are sure to delight. Here, the Place du General Leclerc also offers a variety of outdoor cafes, while the Rue des Chapeliers and the Church of St Jean du Baly are also worth a visit. |
