The charming town of Le Lavandou can be found on Cape Bénat in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France, near the Massif des Maures Mountains between Cannes and Marseille. This onetime small fishing village was formally founded in the late 1800s, but today it has grown into a popular tourist destination and seaside resort town, thanks to its sunny Mediterranean climate, large number of pristine beaches and wide variety of water sports and outdoor adventure.
Despite the rise in tourism, the marina is still the centre of life in Le Lavandou, with local fishermen offering the day’s catch for sale every morning from 8-11:00 on the quays. Also of note, the city holds a major market, boasting everything from local produce and meat, to dry goods like clothes and shoes, every Thursday morning. If possible, also plan on taking a day trip to the nearby Hyères Islands. |
