Renowned for its excellent local wine, the town of Macon is located in the southern part of the Burgundy region of France, north of Lyon and close to Cluny. In addition to the multiple wine-tasting opportunities offered here, the town is one of the first in the region to boast a “Mediterranean” feel, and boasts a variety of pastel-colored buildings and canal tile rooftops.
The part of town that lines the Saone River is a magnificent place for a stroll and is also home to the cathedral Saint Vincent, which merits a stop. Also of interest, the old town centre is located just a few streets from the river. Be sure to check out the esplanade Lamertine, which features a variety of interesting homes. Of particular note is the Maison de Bois, an ancient wooden building that dates to the 15th century and now houses a popular café. |
