A stunning medieval hilltop village, Manosque is located in the Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur region of France and boasts the largest number of olive trees in the region. The intact medieval old town centre is sure to delight visitors and boasts two 14th century gates, known as Porte Soubeyran and Porte Saunerie.
Manosque is a large, walled town at the edge of the Luberon river, and offers excellent lodging, shopping and dining opportunities for guests, making this the ideal base for excursions into the many villages of the surrounding hills. Be sure to check out the market held every Saturday morning in the Place du Terreau, as well as the outdoor bookstalls that can be found here. Also of interest, Mont d’Or is just over one kilometer from the town centre. It marks the place where the Counts of Forqualgier once lived and today offers a splendid view of the town and the gorgeous surrounding countryside. |
