A stunning town located on the coast in the Provence-Alpes-Maritimes-Cote d’Azur region of France, Menton is situated close to the Italian border and is part of the popular French Riviera. It has rightfully been given the nickname la perle de la France, or “The Pearl of France,” due to its pristine beaches and near-perfect climate.
The mountains bordering the town protect it from inclement weather, so the climate is excellent even for this region, which is already known for its fine weather and lovely beaches. This tropical climate has resulted in thriving tangerine, orange and lemon groves, which explains why the one of the town’s main symbols is a lemon! In fact, the annual Lemon Festival is a great time to visit and takes place over the course of several days in February.
Menton also features several world-renowned gardens, including the Le Val Rahmeh, the Serre de la Madone, the Maria Serena and the Fontana Rosa. The old town of Menton features a 16th century baroque basilica of Saint-Michel-Archange, but visitors will also delight in the extensive variety of fine restaurants, bars and cafes that are located throughout town. |
