The urban community of Rueil-Malmaison can be found in the western suburbs of Paris, in the Île-de-France region of north-central France, just under 13 kilometers from the city’s centre. The area has been inhabited since the Early Medieval Ages, but today it has become a thriving business centre, making this an ideal location from which to explore the many historical and cultural attractions that are located throughout the entire region, so be certain to reserve a rental car for your visit.
Interestingly, Rueil-Malmaison was once known as simply ‘Rueil,’ but today is named in part for its famed tourist attraction, the magnificent Château de Malmaison, which housed Napoleon Bonapart’s first wife Josephine. Also of note, the nearby Saint-Pierre-Saint Paul church is worth a visit, as are the 18th century Rueil barracks of the Swiss Guard. In addition, renowned Impressionist painters Manet, Renoir and Monet painted the Seine River here towards the end of the 19th century. |
