The community of Saint-Denis is located in the northern suburbs of Paris, in the Seine-Saint-Denis department of France, just over nine kilometers from the city’s centre. The area has been settled since the 2nd century CE and was largely dependant on commercial trade and industry for its economy until 1998 when the Stade de France – the main stadium for the entire country – was constructed, spurring a number of other improvements to the existing infrastructure.
Be sure to reserve a rental car for your visit to Saint-Denis, in order to enjoy anytime access to the many cultural and historic attractions located throughout the entire Île-de-France region. Also of note, the Basilica and Abbey of Saint-Denis has portions that date back to the 7th century, and houses a well-known necropolis that was the burial place for French kings between the 10th and 18th centuries. In addition, the Musée Bouilhet-Christofle boasts an impressive collection of silver plate and cutlery made by the 19th century Maison Christofle Company. |
