The picturesque town of Salon-de-Provence can be found in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France, northwest of Marseilles and southeast of Nimes. Historically an integral part of the salt trade route that ran between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, today it is home to a significant air base and related museum, as well as a number of impressive historical monuments, making it a popular tourist destination. In addition, be sure to reserve a rental car for your visit, in order to enjoy easy access to the towns and villages along the famed French Riviera.
While in Salon-de-Provence, also take the time to visit the 9th century Château de l'Empéri, which is the main attraction in the old town centre and today boasts an impressive museum of military history. Also of note, the 15th century Collégiale Saint Laurent and the 13th century, Romanesque-style St. Michel Chapel are impressive to behold, while the Provençal markets held every Wednesday in the Place Morgan are not to be missed! |
