Nestled in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France around 25 miles southwest of Montpellier, the port town of Sete is also a popular resort on the Mediterranean Sea. Historically a thriving fishing village, the formal town dates back to the 17th century, when it was settled thanks to the construction of the Canal du Midi. Even today, if oysters and mussels are a favorite dish, Sete is the place for you, thanks to the abundant fields that can be found in the nearby saltwater lake, Bassin de Thau.
Sete is also a great vacation destination for history lovers, as settlement in the area can be traced all the way back to the bronze age, and different peoples have lived here throughout the centuries ever since! In addition, it is often referred to casually as the “little Venice” of the region, thanks to the canals and the charming old town centre. |
