Located on the Bay of Saint-Brieuc near the English Channel in the Brittany region of northwestern France, the town of St. Brieuc dates back to the 6th century and is named for a Welsh monk. Today, it is an excellent place to stop on a road trip through the region, so consider reserving a rental car and heading out to explore!
While visiting, be sure to stop by Saint-Brieuc’s Cemetery of Saint Michel, which is the final resting place for several notable historical figures, including Anatole Le Braz, the ‘Bard of Brittany,” who was highly respected by scholars from all over the world, thanks to his life’s work of collecting Breton folklore. Also of note, the Cathedrale Saint-Etienne de Saint-Brieuc is a 14th century Roman Catholic cathedral that still holds some of the relics of Saint Brieuc and today the ancient building is also a national monument of France. |
