Located in the heart of the Burgundy region of north-central France, the town of St. Florentin is located around 25 kilometers northeast of the town of Auxerre, near the border of the Champagne region. It is a charming village that boasts a few interesting historical attractions, making it worth a stop on any trip through the region.
Today, a few of the ancient fortifications of St. Florentin still exist, including the bell tower and portions of the ramparts. Also of note, St. Florentin absorbed the nearby village of Avrolles, settled since Roman times, in the mid-1970s. In addition, a visit to the Museum of Natural History (located nearby in Auxerre) comes well recommended, as does the 9th century Abbey of Saint Germain and the 11th century Cathedral of St. Etienne. Wine connoisseurs will delight in the spectacular spirits that can be found throughout Burgundy, especially the Saint-Bris-le-Vieux, Irancy and Chablis. |
