The small, seaside town of Sainte-Maxime, also known as St. Maxime Sur Mer, can be found on the northern shore of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France. Surrounded by the Massif des Maures mountain range, it is situated just over 130 kilometers from Marseille and 90 kilometers from Nice and boasts a convenient ferry service connecting it to Saint-Tropez.
While visiting Sainte-Maxime, be sure to stop by the gorgeous botanical gardens, which are free and open to the public, as well as the 15th century town hall and the Tour Carrée – a magnificent 16th century defensive tower. Today, the white sand beaches and warm, sunny Mediterranean climate have made Sainte-Maxime a popular tourist destination, thanks in part to the wide variety of swimming, diving and skiing opportunities. In addition, hiking, walking, horseback riding and mountain biking opportunities abound in the surrounding mountains. |
