The new town of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines can be found 20 kilometers southwest of Paris in the Île-de-France region of France, just over 20 kilometers from the city’s center. It was created in the 1960s by combining a number of smaller communities in an area known as Plateau de Saclay, which also encompasses the nearby towns of Massey and Versailles.
Be sure to reserve a rental car when visiting Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, in order to enjoy easy access to the many historical and cultural attractions located in the region, including the 12th century Commandery of the Knights Templar of Villedieu, which is located in the municipality of Élancourt and marks the first stop for pilgrims making the trek from Paris to Chartres. Also of note, consider visiting the Academy of Fine Arts in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, which boasts wonderful contemporary art exhibits, as well as the magnificent 18th century Cathedral of St. Louis in Versailles and the unique old town centre of Hatches, which at one time was completely surrounded by protective walls. |
