The town of Vesoul is located southeast of Paris in the Franche-Comté region of eastern France and it is also the capital of the Haute-Saône department. Notably, the isolated, slightly conical and quite unusual hill of La Motte rises straight up above the town, while the Durgeon River winds its way through the area.
While visiting Vesoul, be sure to reserve a rental car and plan to explore the surrounding countryside as well as the town itself. Interestingly, the region’s proximity to Switzerland has allowed it to assimilate much of the same cultural traditions, architecture and cuisine. Also of note, portions of the region are dotted with beautiful lakes that are perfect for swimming, as well as magnificent waterfalls and breathtaking gorges. The more immediate geography, however, includes rolling, perfectly cultivated fields that are also a delight to behold. In fact, the diverse landscapes throughout the region make this a perfect retreat for summer or winter holidays. |
