The charming village of Villeneuve-sur-Lot is located just over 30 kilometers north of Agen in the Aquitaine region of southwestern France and is divided almost perfectly in half by the Lot River. A magnificent 13th century bridge boasting a principal arch that stretches nearly 40 meters spans the river and connects the two sections of town, while portions of the 13th century ramparts are still visible on the left bank, including two stunning towers known as the Porte de Paris and the Porte de Pujols.
While visiting Villeneuve-sur-Lot, be sure to stop by the Place la Lafayette, which is home to a variety of magnificent old buildings from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Also of note, the late Gothic-style church of St. Etienne is worth checking out, as are the impressive 13th century walls of nearby Pujols. In addition, the ancient abbey of the Eysses is located just a few kilometers away. |
