Located in the South of Germany and in Bavaria, Ansbach is a small town of around 40,000 people. Situated in Middle Franconia and as such largely rural, Ansbach is perfect for a late autumn drive. Famous Ansbach residents have included Albert of Prussia who was the grand Master of the Teutonic Order and the first duke of Prussia, as well as the astronomer Simon Marius. It was also home to the famous botanist Leonhart Fuchs and with the outstanding scenery surrounding the town, it’s not difficult to see why someone in this field would flourish in the area!
The town itself has a great deal of this history embedded in the buildings. Margrave’s Palace and the Kasper-Hauser Memorial are two particular highlights and offer an insight into traditional Bavarian culture. Additionally, there are many family orientated facilities such as cinemas and restaurants, should you want to take a pause from absorbing the history. |
