Traditionally a trading town for horse and cattle, Aurich is now one of the most visited areas in East Friesia and offers an inviting choice of places to eat, shop and visit. A pedestrian precinct runs the length of the town and makes it easy to enjoy the hospitality of the locals in the busy town centre.
The Marstallgebäude, stables and coachhouse, in the castle square are some of the most attractive buildings in the town. The congress hall or ‘Brems Garten’, built in 1980, plays host to many cultural events throughout the year. For sports enthusiasts, the Playground Skatehall, at 3200 square metres, is the biggest skatepark in Germany and a must for skaters and BMX fans alike.
As a driver, it is worth bearing in mind Aurich’s close proximity to Ewiges Meer, Germany’s largest Moorland lake. The proximity to the lake makes it ideal for your driving route to the nature trail, which is particularly child-friendly, and can also be guided by a Horst Reichwein – or nature guide – should you wish. Boats are available for hire, from paddles to canoes. |
