Located in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia and along one of the most beautiful sections of the river Rhine, Bad Honnef is a spa town which connects northwards with the Drachenfels Moutain or ‘Dragon’s Rock’. After being discovered in the nineteenth century, Bad Honnef has been used regularly by prominent national and international visitors to bask in the healthy spring water.
Within the city proper, there are many attractions for tourists, including the museum of contemporary history and the former palace of Konrad Adenauer. Walking through the town, you will see tour boats going to the cities of Cologne, Bonn, Koblenz and Mainz. Visiting in the summer time, with the protected climate and the exotic blooms that flourish in the courtyards, one would be forgiven for thinking that one had stumbled into a Mediterranean paradise; immediately, a guest will understand the description Bad Honnef often has -‘Germany’s answer to Nice on the Rhine’. The architecture around the town still bears the hallmarks of the English Romantic influence from the nineteenth century, when visitors would flock to take advantage of the health benefits of the spring. |
