Baden Baden is one of the best examples of Germany’s numerous spa towns. It offers a wealth of recreational activities and beautiful scenic views that are sure to keep even the most world-weary traveller interested. Formed around two thousand year-old springs, the town is also famous for its Spielbank Casino which is thought to be the inspiration for Fyodor Dostoevsky’s The Gambler.
The golf course in Fremersberg offers another avenue for whiling away a sunny afternoon, perhaps followed by a walk through the Kurhaus gardens. In winter, visitors can enjoy skiing at the nearby community centre. Also worth checking out is The Baden-Baden Museum, which offers a good insight into the variations in Badeners’ customs. Baden Baden is well serviced by the local Airpark, which is fifteen kilometres from the town proper and can be accessed by car from the A5 Basle to Frankfurt or the A8 from Munich to Karlsruhe. Along the drive, you can enjoy the view of the Black Forest in which the town nestles. |
