Bamberg is a UNESCO World Heritage City located by car along the A70 from Schweinfurt and to Nuremberg along the A9. Sometimes described as Franconia’s answer to Rome, it has been an ‘episcopal town’ for almost one thousand years and is home to several beautiful medieval castles and buildings. The shopping area in the town centre has trendy retail outlets; aside from this, visitors can also explore the Market Gardeners’ District, which is populated with charming traditional houses.
Bamberg’s musical heritage is brought to the fore by the internationally acclaimed Bamberg Symphony Orchestra who perform regularly. Should you travel here in the festive period, you’ll find that the baroque feel of the town is a great place to experience the German take on this time of year. At night, you can take a stroll towards the glorious Cathedral and the Neue Residence (or ‘New Palace’) which encapsulates the traditions of Bamberg to a tee. |
