Berchtesgaden has long been visited by impressive guests, given its traditional use as a summer residence for the Bavarian nobility. Situated at the bottom of Mount Watzmann, Berchtesgaden is still able to keep modern visitors entertained.
The Alpine Road which leads to the National Park of Berchtesgaden is almost reason enough to visit the area in itself; the scenery will transport you to another world with the incredible views of valleys, villages and views of the mountain ranges. The Autobahn A8 connects the National Park to Munich, and will take you to the South-East corner of Germany.
In the town centre, you will find the historic Royal Palace, a beautiful piece of Gothic architecture. Heading outwards, you will also come across the Salt Mines. Savour the local beer as you relax in one of the pubs and restaurants on offer. The mountainous landscape surrounding the area provides the perfect backdrop for hiking, ice-skating, skiing and snowboarding at the Gutshof and Rossfeld public slopes. |
