Positioned on the edge of the bay of Cologne, the hundred thousand inhabitants of Bergisch Gladbach are lucky to enjoy year round scenic beauty as well as all the amenities and diversions of a modern town. The economic and cultural centre of the Rheinsich-Bergish district, the city is the product of the unification of Bensberg and Bergisch Gladbach in 1975.
A walk through the cultural quarter will lead you to the White Pit area, where miners worked in Medieval times. Near the mines you can visit the Fauna-Flor-Habitat in which is situated the Steiger house. This is home to habitats of many wild animals and plants. Opportunities for nature lovers extend still further, with hiking trails up the Sauerland Mountain.
On your trip, be sure to take a look at the Villa Zanders which was renovated in the late nineteen eighties. It is now home to regularly changing art exhibitions, ranging from Durer to Picasso, as well as pieces by up-coming artists. Bergisch Gladbach is easily accessible from the Autobahn 4; enjoy your visit! |
