Bitburg lies roughly twenty-five kilometres North West of Trier and fifty kilometres North East of Luxembourg. It is within easy reach of local airports by car. Twinned with Arloni in Belgium and Rethel in France, its location also means that the diversity of the culture can be felt in contrast to more central German areas, from the cuisine to the feel of the town. The County Museum, Beda, is a particular highlight for its collection of artifacts from around the area.
An annual highlight in Bitburg is the European Folklore Festival, which is attended by around fifty regular groups from more than fifteen countries. Having started in 1965, it offers an array of performances including folk dancing, majorette groups, music clubs, minstrel and fanfares. Given that Bielefeld is home to the second largest beer factory in the whole of Germany, there are many opportunities to sample the local brew and for family friendly entertainment, there are many amusement parks which will provide fun for all the family. |
