Although less well known than the state of Brandenburg, Brandenburg town is a major industrial force in the German economy. Conquered by Albert the Bear in the twelfth century, it has some impressive remnants of that era in its centre. This includes the Romanesque church and the City Hall. In easy access of the junction of Federal Highways 1 and 102, the Autobahn A2 is also nearby.
In the historic town centre visitors will find the Dominsel. This is home to the Cathedral of St. Paul and St. Peter. The oldest building in the town, construction began in the twelfth century and it took almost two hundred years to complete. The St. Catherine’s Church is another impressive structure, although in a Gothic style. The Old Town Hall, another interesting Gothic building, is close by.
From the centre, you can also take a tour of the medieval city wall, where several watchtowers are still maintained. There is also a range of boutiques and impressive buildings for different types of leisure. |
