Although there are three places in Germany that share this name, Büren town is not to be confused with two smaller villages. Whilst there, tourists can take advantage of the walks offered around the town; this includes the historic Jesuitenpfad route, which takes you up through a valley trail to Ahdener Wewelsburg. Along the way, you can take in a fine example of a Jesuit Church as well as the breathtaking forest scenery.
The castle of Wewelsburg is the only triangularly designed castle in the whole of Germany. A renaissance structure, is it considered the town’s landmark. The Forest Railway, which has vintage carriages, is also popular with tourists and ideal for a day-trip. The Radio Museum in the town centre is another a recommendation. The many local pubs and restaurants offer traditional dishes and are reasonably priced.
Annually, the town hosts a Spring Fair in partnership with other cities including Charenton-le-Pont in France and Mittersill in Austria. This offers some samples of wine and cheese from the region. |
