Celle, in the region of Lower Saxony, is something of a gem. Extremely well connected on several B Roads as well as the Landesstraße, it is home to a rich archictural heritage, the highlight of which is The Ducal Palace which was build in the thirteenth century.
It was refurbished during the reign of Duke George Wilhelm, which lends it its current baroque appearance. The Gothic Hall, Chapel and State Apartments are all within easy walking distance of the city centre and provide a glimpse into Celle’s history.
In the downtown area, there is a wealth of monuments, public art in the form of sculptures; the Palace Theatre is a must, and showcases regular theatrical performances and readings, as well as contemporary audiovisual productions. The City Garden is also great for whiling away a sunny afternoon. There are also weekly markets in the town centre on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There is ample opportunity for parking in and around the city centre, and a lot of free parking spaces. |
