Chemnitz is located close to Erfurt, Dresden and Leipzig along the Autobahn. There are many artistic and cultural activities that make Chemnitz the ideal place for a stop en route to any of these towns.

Close to the centre, there are many opportunities for hiking and biking along routes that follow the romantic river valleys and palaces, and also to nearby Erzgebirge. Home to many fine examples of Bahaus and Art Nouveau, there are some particular gems including the Villa Esche and also the renovated castle area. There are many regular markets in the town, where visitors can bargain hunt.
Another place that is well worth looking at is the Pottery Market, where you can see pots being made. The beautiful Botanical Gardens are also another highlight; here, you can observe and walk around in many locally species of flora and fauna whilst rambling towards the town. One of the many bars and bistros near to the town centre is sure to have something to tickle your palette
