Delmenhorst is set amidst the marshes of Oldenburg and Bremen and is home to almost eighty-thousand residents. Traditionally an industrial centre, it also has the remnants of a Romantic past in the Romantic and Art Nouveau architecture. Delmenhorst boasts many exciting opportunities for leisure, including the forty-four metre high Watertower with its impressive observation deck to the rest of the town. Another landmark well worth exploring is the Gründerzeit factory. One of the traditional ‘Global Projects’ for the EXPO in 2010, it has been developed since 2006.
There are many traditional events hosted in Delmenhorst, including the Kramer market which features more than one hundred rides and is particularly family friendly. There is also the Graftwiesen Fair which similarly provides fun for all the family. The pleasant pedestrianized walk-through and spacious parks lead to the castle which was previously the residence of Count Otto von Oldenburg. Delmenhorst is particularly nice to visit in the spring. |
