Situated amidst undulating hills and meadows in Lower Bavaria, Eggenfelden is a delight for those travelling by car and is within driving distance of Passau. Combining this wealth of natural beauty with all the amenities a tourist would expect, the main square is home to many pretty examples of traditional Bavarian architecture from the fourteenth century and ideal for spending a lazy afternoon.
The Catholic Church of Saint Nicolas is the central focal point for the town, both because of its impressive size and also it’s impressively decorated interior. A range of cultural organizations also add another dimension to what is on offer in the town. The local theatre also shows many performing arts and visual arts, and the Altes Rathaus (the old City Hall) is an enchanting glimpse into the fourteenth century. Also worth visiting are the Grabmeier-Gate from the fifteenth century, and also the Haberland-Haus, which was once owned by the well-known parliament member and painter Georg Haberland. |
