A small city nestled in picturesque countryside, Eisenach is a highlight for tourists and benefits from an array of historical landmarks. The eleventh century Wartburg Castle, one of the most famous castles in Germany, is situated here and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city itself has been home to many of the most significant developments in German history; indeed, Luther the reformer even translated the New Testament here. Tourists can visit the house where Luther lived during his time in Eisenach. Another particular highlight is the house where J.S. Bach, the composer, was born – at over six-hundred square metres, this memorial to Bach’s life and work is one of the most visited exhibits in the whole of Germany.
Eisenach also attracts many international artists and showcases popular musical events, as this heritage suggests. Another gem, located off Wartburg Avenue, is the Tea Room which is beautifully decorated with wallpapers dating back for centuries; perfect for your afternoon retreat. |
