A beautiful town surrounded by majestic scenery, Engelskirchen has a community of approximately twenty-thousand residents. It is well connected to Cologne along the route 55 and the Cologne-Bologne airport is just forty kilometres away.
Whilst primarily a manufacturing town, it also has many sites of interest for tourists including the Aggertalhöhle , Ehrenburg Hoven , the Oelchenshammer and the Haldy tower. The highlight is the Rhineland Industrial Museum, which is situated in the grounds of a former cotton mill. Close to the central church, there are many opportunities for recreation and shopping, as well as several restaurants; visitors can also look at some of the neo-classical architecture dotted around.
Visiting Engelskirchen at Christmas time is a particular recommendation; it is at this time that the town comes to life and there are many concerts at the churches. Indeed, it is to Engelskirchen that the most Germany children address their Christmas letters! |
