Frankenthal was a settlement for much Dutch fleeing persecution in the seventeenth century and as such is an unusual gem in the Germanic landscape for tourists. Home too many prosperous artists, carpet weavers and jewellers, this pretty town are also blessed with some remarkable architecture and natural beauty.
There are many festivals and celebrations that populate the social calendar in Frankenthal, in particular the spring market. The art scene is also well established, with regular exhibitions from international and local emerging artists often showcased at the Kunsthaus. The dramatic arts have a strong focus in Frankenthal, and there are many regular performances in the city for theatre-goers.
The Erkenbert Museum is another highlight for its exhibitions, and there is also a great deal of choice for foodies. The Jewish Cemetary is also an interesting visit. For an outdoor alternative, tourists can also bike through the city, following the Sailer Path. |
