Situated close to Cologne, Frechen is an ideal town for a short stop. Home to approximately 50,000 residents, it is well connected by road. With its roots in lignite, clay and silica industries, Frechen is home to a thriving economy. Additionally there is a variety of choices for art and culture, sport and leisure, as well as shopping. The annual Frechen Carnival is one of the most celebrated in Germany.
The town is populated with many attractive half-timbered cottages which are a mark of its heritage and there is also a strong tradition of sport, making Frechen an especially good choice for sport enthusiasts. Cycling tours around the city are particularly popular; from there, you can take in some of the ancient buildings. The Frechen Theatre hosts performances by international and local artists, and the cabaret performances at the venue are particularly renowned. Travellers can also visit the Kermion Foundation, which is home to a fine collection of traditional Rhenish ceramics. |
