The capital of the Black Forest and one of the most picturesque vacation spots in the whole of Germany, Freiburg has many of the best elements of Baden cuisine and culture to offer – from strolling in the historical downtown are to visiting one of the many cafes and cozy bars. The valley location in Baden Wurttenberg means that it enjoys a pleasant year-round climate. There are many parks and green spaces for nature lovers, in particular the Schauinsland and many lakes in and around the town. There is also a Nordic fitness park and several popular hiking trails between Felberg and the Wiedener.

There is a gothic feel to the city, and this is brought home in the architecture which dates from the Romantic period; one particular highlight is the cathedral in the centre of the city as well as the Augustine Monastery.
