The city of Freising is an important cultural centre and offers all the amenities of a vibrant small town. One of the oldest of the Bavarian settlements, it is an interesting access point into Bavarian culture. The War Memorial at the Marienplatz is one of the central points for visitors; from there, it is easy to tour the rest of the town.
The Freising Cathedral is also another point of interest for visitors. Particularly well known for its beer gardens, Freising is also home to the Bavarian State Brewery which is situated on the Weihenstephan hill. There is also the Hofbrau Brewery, which makes some of the finest beers available in the whole of Germany. A highlight for ale enthusiasts is the Beer Festival, which takes place in August. For healthy alternatives, there are also many gardens in the town displaying some of the finest gardens in the area. Only fifteen minutes by drive from Munich Airport, car hire here is also particularly useful. |
