Friedrichshafen is one of the prominent homes for aerospace, aviation and technology in Germany but also a select tourist destination. Situated by the side of Lake Constance in Baden-Wurttenberg the town is ideally located for access to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. With its roots in the fifth century, it was the founding settlement of the Old Alemannendorfs and is privy to some interesting historical relics.
Badly damaged during the Second World War, Friedrichshafen has been extensively rebuilt. Despite losing many of the most significant historical sites, visitors can still walk the three kilometre historical path from the ferry station to the castle, which takes in much of the old Imperial City and contemporary residential areas. The Lourdes Grotto of Habratsweiler and the Boiler House are just some of the attractions the town offers; wandering around, visitors can absorb some of the sixteenth century architecture that survived.
There are also many sporting attractions on offer in the town, from cycling to boating; for those on extended vacations, the ferry port makes frequent trips to Switzerland. This is particularly suited for those hiring a car. For further travel within Germany, Friedrichshafen enjoys excellent road links to Konstanz, St. Gallen, Ravensburg, Ulm and Munich. |
