The university town of Goettingen in Lower Saxony has been influenced by many artists, scientists, scholars and Nobel-prize winners including Georg Christoph Lichtenberg and Carl Friedrich Gauss. A central point for many German poets during the Romantic period, it is said to have inspired some of the greatest writers of that period.
