The largest city in Saxony-Anhalt, Halle has approximately two hundred and fifty inhabitants and an area of approximately one hundred and thirty-five square metres, which is the largest population of any city in the region of Saxony-Anhalt and the fourth largest in eastern Germany. Situated on the banks of the Saale river, it is conveniently accessible from the Leipzig-Halle airport and the motorway lines A9 or A14.
Most famous as the birthplace of the musician Handel, there are many tourist attractions which focus on the great musician. Throughout the year, there are many festivals for tourists to participate in including the Lantern Festival and the Salt Festival. The Opera house shows classical pieces and the vaudeville theatre is also great for an evening of alternative entertainment. One of the most famous (and fun) places to visit in the town is the Halloren Chocolate Factory. The Botanical Gardens and Zoo are also ideal for those with children. |
