Hamburg is one of the most famous towns in Germany and is easily accessible by car via the Autobahn from several different routes, including the old Elbe Tunnel. Besides New York and London, Hamburg is the third biggest musical metropolis worldwide; John Lennon famously proclaimed that he had ‘grown to adulthood in Hamburg, not in Liverpool’. There are many tours offered which document the tour the Beatles undertook here, as well as other bands that lived and performed here during the nineteen sixties.
Numerous theatres, museums and galleries as well as the State Opera make Hamburg an exciting all-round cultural centre; this also gives over to the cuisine on offer, which is as varied as you would expect in a cosmopolitan city. One of the more unusual tours that tourists can take in Hamburg is through the traditional red light districts of the area and the ‘alternative theatre’ and cabaret are sure to tickle your interest (but for adults only). |
