Kassel is most famous as the place where the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm finished their Fairy Tales and spent long periods of time for inspiration; as a result, Kassel is a treasure trove of mementoes to the Brothers. Tourists can view some original writings of theirs in stunning locations such as the baroque-style Palais Bellevue which was designed by the French architect Paul du Ry.
Aside from the Grimm influence, art lovers will particularly enjoy visiting the old masters at the Wilhelmshöhe Palace Art Gallery, which includes some works by Rembrandt. Kassel’s University is also home to an international student body, which adds to the already cosmopolitan feel of the town. It intersects the major roads of the Autobahn by the A7, A 49 and A 44. Other famous previous inhabitants include Napoleon Bonaparte’s brother Jerome. The Fridericianum Museum is also well known for its extensive exhibits, and is ideal for those interested in history. |
