Often nicknamed ‘Bach’s city’, Leipzig was the home of the internationally renowned composer for twenty-three years and was an important part of his development. Indeed, Leipzig’s thriving music scene continues until this day in a variety of genres – from electronica to classical and jazz. This is partly due to the University of Music and Theatre, which has given rise to many regular music festivals.
Aside from this, Leipzig is often regarded as a world-wide tourist destination in its own right and can be accessed along the A 9 and A 14 of the Autobahn routes. The Leipzig University is particularly interesting to visit; great minds including Frederick Nietzsche and Goethe studied there. Additionally, the Botanical Gardens are some of the oldest and most beautiful in the whole of Germany – perfect for a daytrip. Beer enthusiasts should also enjoy the brews that originate in Leipzig, including Gose beer, as well as the beer festival that is celebrated here. |
